Women In The Bible

This is just a brief list of how women are treated in the bible. Of course there are scriptures that contradict a lot of them. I’m not going to list them all, I’d be here all day.

A woman is responsible for the origin of sin. –Genesis 3:6

This one is – of course – contradictory, because in Romans 5:12-19 it states that Adam caused original sin to enter the world.

A woman is the reason for Samson loss of power. –Judges 16:4-17

A woman can be hated upon by the very men they are forced to marry – after sex. The man can lie and claim she’s not a virgin and can have her killed [stoned to death at the father’s doorstep] if the father of the wife cannot prove she’s a virgin. –Deuteronomy 22:13

Men come to another man’s house looking for a man. What does the man of the house do? No, he doesn’t turn over the man in question. He offers them their virgin daughter and wife. –Judges 19:24

A woman is supposed to just go with their captive and then be discarded as trash if the captive doesn’t like her. Oh, if you do like her, she must shave her head, mourn her father and mother for an entire month after living with said captive, then get married. –Deuteronomy 21:11-13

A woman can be sold into slavery and become a servant; so can a man. The only difference is a man can eventually go free. –Exodus 21:7

A virgin woman has to cry out loud enough while being raped, otherwise she’s a stoned dead woman. –Deuteronomy 22:23

Now, a lot of people will argue this as rape. Let me explain further before another troglodyte come along and insult me.

Let me repeat myself:

Deuteronomy 22: 28-29 If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives

This may classify as rape, I would say so if you read the context but some people say no. Deuteronomy 22: 23-24 If a man happens to meet in a town a virgin pledged to be married and he sleeps with her, you shall take both of them to the gate of that town and stone them to death—the young woman because she was in a town and did not scream for help, and the man because he violated another man’s wife. You must purge the evil from among you

Deuteronomy 20:10-14 As you approach a town to attack it, first offer its people terms for peace. If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor. But if they refuse to make peace and prepare to fight, you must attack the town. When the lord your God hands it over to you, kill every man in the town. But you may keep for yourselves all the women, children, livestock, and other plunder. You may enjoy the spoils of your enemies that the lord your God has given you.

  • Let me continue by listing other rapes in the bible.

2 Samuel 12:11-18 is CRAZY. God himself brings the completely innocent rape victims to the rapist. And then he kills an innocent child! I wonder where the idea of a god that loves peace comes from when referring to the bible

“This is what the LORD says: ‘Out of your own household I am going to bring evil on you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will sleep with your wives in broad daylight. 12 You did it in secret, but I will do this thing in broad daylight before all Israel.’ 13 Then David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the LORD.” Nathan replied, “The LORD has taken away your sin. You are not going to die. 14 But because by doing this you have shown utter contempt for the LORD, the son born to you will die.” 15 After Nathan had gone home, the LORD struck the child that Uriah’s wife had borne to David, and he became ill. 16 David pleaded with God for the child. He fasted and spent the nights lying in sackcloth on the ground. 17 The elders of his household stood beside him to get him up from the ground, but he refused, and he would not eat any food with them. 18 On the seventh day the child died.

Genesis 19: In Sodom and Gomorrah men were having relations with other men, Lot orders them to rape his daughters instead of having homosexual relations. God tells Lot to leave the city so he can destroy Sodom and Gomorrah and does so burning everything in it including women and children.

If a woman gives birth to a son, she is impure for 6 days. While  if she were to give birth to a daughter. It’s an entire two weeks. Leviticus 12: 2-5

Virgin women are used as toys for a king. The one who pleases the king the most through sexual acts, will replace the other. –Esther 2:2-4

Women are naturally supposed to provide men with sex. That is their natural use. –Romans 1

Women and children fleeing and hiding from an invasion. Nothing wrong with that, right? A woman drops a ‘milestone’ on a soldiers head, but it doesn’t kill him. What does he say to his compatriots? Kill me with your sword so you can say a woman did it. –Judges 9:50-54

Heaven needs virgin men who haven’t been defiled by women. A whole shit-ton of em’; 144,000 to be exact. –Revelations 14:1-4

This contradicts Genesis 1:28 as well as other scriptures.

A woman is not allowed to speak in church. Why is it that they reject this part of the bible and become pastors anyway? –1 Corinthians 14:34-35

A woman cannot teach a goddamned thing; nor to have authority. They are told to be quiet. –1 Timothy 3:2

A Jewish prayer:

Blessed be the God who has not created me a heathen, a slave or a woman.

Thank You Atheist Family!

You'll know your true friends when you're in need. My friends...my atheist family came through for me.

You’ll know your true friends when you’re in need. My friends…my atheist family came through for me.

I needed 18 more dollars for my son. I asked my family and friends for this money and they pretty much told me no because of my lack of belief. In that split-second, I almost regretted telling my family and my “friends” I was an atheist. If they still believed I was Christian, I would have had the money and then some without question. I was to the point where I was going to tell them that I was no longer an atheist and have converted back over some time ago; just to get the money I needed for my son.

Again, I don’t know if it was because of it being Black Friday or it was because I was an atheist, maybe both, but I went on my Black Atheist’s page to rant and in under 10 minutes I had the money and then some to help my son.

I sat there and cried in anger…it was anger because my family couldn’t help me, but complete strangers did. I was almost disgusted. I wasn’t expecting people to help me, but they did and I will be forever grateful.

Thank you, guys. You are my family, I know that now. You’ve been with me since the beginning and I love you all.

Note: I know not all Christians are this way. I have an ex mother-in-law that proves that. She gave me so many things for my son before he was even born; even her home. This is just to shed light that people will turn away from you just because of something that really shouldn’t matter when the same blood is flowing through their veins as yours.

If I had to sell my belongings, I was going to get that money for my son. Even if it meant he couldn’t watch his favorite learning show or Yo Gabba Gabba! for a while because of it. His well-being is what matters most. I couldn’t call myself a mother otherwise.

Edit: The reason I couldn’t ask my mother-in-law for the money is because she’s no longer talking to me because I divorced her son; she believes I’m the reason he’s homeless and losing 15 lbs.

I’ll try my best to repay you guys back for what you have given my son. I have a sense of peace right now. I don’t have to worry about my son not having what he really needs.

Again, thank you! I cry tears of joy tonight.

My Family Hates Me Because I’m An Atheist

Which I couldn’t give two shits about.

The problem I have with them having so much hatred towards me because of it, is because they’re trying to shut me up and keep me quiet. They’re calling family members, discussing my atheism among themselves, but they can’t pick up that same fucking phone and call me. Pure cowardice if you ask me.

I didn’t come out as an atheist because I hate god. I didn’t come out because my prayers weren’t answered. I didn’t come out as an atheist out of spite towards my family. I came out as an atheist because I was sick and tired of lying to myself and people around me who I truly am inside.

It’s not like I had much to lose when I did. My family is the epitome of ‘dysfunctional’ and it’s been that way long before I was thought of.

It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be when I finally came out. My family was mad, my cousins disowned me, my little brother hates me, but I came out of it pretty much unscathed. A lot of Black atheists can’t say the same I’m sure. It’s the social idealism that all black people are religious. Who could blame them? It’s like every race besides blacks know that the very bible they make gospel videos about on BET is the very same bible used to enslave their ancestors. They hate it when I bring up that fact.

According to a Pew poll, black Americans are more likely than members of any other racial or ethnic group in the country to report a formal religious affiliation. And even among those who didn’t select a particular religion in that survey, three out of four identified as “religious unaffiliated” (meaning they didn’t choose a denomination but said religion was either somewhat or very important in their lives). That’s compared with slightly more than one-third of the unaffiliated population overall. -Pew Poll

It’s like they cover their ears while singing “La-la-la, I can’t hear you!”

Black women are the single most religious demographic in the country. – Journalist Jamila Bey

For awhile, I was like that to myself. I was telling myself that me being an atheist won’t do me any favors. It was when I got sick and fucking tired of people assuming that I was a christian all because I was black. So I simply start telling people that everyone isn’t a Christian, so don’t be so closed-minded. They were shocked, of course. A black woman that’s an atheist? They almost hurled shoes at me at one point. It wasn’t going to change who I am.

The fact that I’m a black atheist woman is a shock to most people in my atheist social group. Again, it’s that social idealism that people have of black people. Then there’s BET with their gospel shows that air every fucking Sunday and sometimes throughout the week; especially if it’s the gospel awards. It also doesn’t help that Tyler Perry isn’t making it any better. He’s the poster child for Christianity massaging in the black community. I can’t think of one of his works where god wasn’t heavily sprinkled all over it.

So add that and that America is a predominantly Christian country and you have what I call ‘A Brainwashed Nation’.

“We’re everywhere.There are a whole lot of us who are not going to nod and amen our way through things. So many of us are putting an end to that unfortunate practice. Everyone’s soon going to know us.” -Jamila Bey

I didn’t come out sooner than I did because then, I was a child. Then, I was afraid of getting my ass beat and then ousted from the family for good. I felt no matter how hard I try to get my family’s approval, them knowing I didn’t believe the same thing they did, it wouldn’t have been enough for them.

So, now that I’m out and beating my chest and baring my teeth; showing aggression against anyone who wants to shut me up, I’ll be damned if I turn around and be quieted down because a few family members hate that I’m an outspoken atheist. I’m not going to shut up for them. They didn’t show me the same respect when they were still trying to shove that religious shit down my throat after they found out, so fuck them.

Any black atheists out there that haven’t come out, yet. Please know that you’re not cowards, but don’t be afraid to stand firm. When you do decide to come out to whomever is in your life, know that there are groups and pages like mine that are willing to support you the best way we can. When you come out, you do this not just for yourself. You do it for the entire community. Your courage will give other atheists courage. Christians are bullies and I can say that with experience.

To my cousin Louis Clark who is the one who was on the phone with my grandmother a couple of days ago expressing his distaste of my atheism to my grandmother. If you happen to come across this blog, I would like to say, FUCK YOU very much. I’m not kissing you or anyone else’s ass because you’re butt-hurt about my life-choices. The only reason you even called my grandmother is because you feel threatened and you’re unsure about your beliefs. Running to my grandmother makes you a coward and I have no room for them in my life. So you can stay where you are; in Florida with wife #3. The bible has something in there about that, but I’m sure you didn’t know that.

It is a shame that so many black Americans are shackled with the religion that was imposed onto black slaves by their christian masters. The Bible taught that slavery was good and that slaves should obey their masters and that rewards would come in the (mythical) next life. Completing the emancipation process should include outgrowing the chains of Christianity and instead embracing freedom and reality.

From The Members: Why?

bc

Here’s a message that I wanted to give to my fellow black atheists.

Why is it that we should be scared to show our faces and express our beliefs openly in the black community? Why is it that the word acceptance is just an illusion-like word conjured up by Webster in order to increase our vocabulary but have no substantial value in its worth to be brought upon into out fellow brother and sisters mind? Many times I have been based for my belief and having to also “blend in” to the populous in order not to offend them, but from my perception, their stubbornness is what deeply offends me. Everybody has a right to believe in what they want to believe in, but from what I have seen and, have gone through, that reality is false. From the dawn of time man has created gods for the idea of control in order to bring answers to questions that could not be answered, but thanks to modern day science, questions can finally be answered without someone saying, “It’s because of god that has happened?” I was raised in a Baptist church for a majority of my childhood and didn’t really enjoy going there from all the judges and cynical people who claimed to be saints but at the end of church go right back to how they were before as though the word “God” or the pastors preaching’s were never spoken in their presence. Many questions came to my head as a child when I was in the church and I have read the bible but let me tell you. A lot of stuff in there just doesn’t make any sence whatsoever. People use god as a defense mechanism when they have no intelligent way of explaining things thoroughly. Christians are easy to read about the Old Testament but not the history of the world. I would type more but I would like to get some feed back on this if it would not be a bother to you. I am not afraid to show my face cause a majority of the people I associate with and family already know about my beliefs. –Kessmine F.

If You’re Black & A Christian…

chrisrock

The old testament was justification for all of the slavery in the south. If you are black and Christian, you’re selling out to the system that enslaved your forefathers for generations and produced a system of indoctrination to continue that cycle of abuse.

Don’t get me wrong, some of the earliest Christians were black and some of the earliest Christian communities were in Africa, but how could you forget the past 500 years and West Africa‘s relationship to Europe and America?

What’s crazier? A Black Mormon. I think that’s more ridiculous than a Black Christian.

If you know of ’31 Status’, I would run away from them as fast as possible. They’re by far the most delusional. Their whole reason of existence is based around proverbs 31. They can tell women are with purpose, are beautiful, are strong and independent without the bible, but will they? No. Why? Because. Because why? You’re sheep and they hand feed you the very same nitpicked bible scriptures your parents nitpicked; your pastor nitpicked. Yes, outright they’re good, but they’re also hypocrites.

If they really knew the bible, they wouldn’t be using that shit to push their agenda; an agenda that you’re already wrapped up in.

Proverbs 31

A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
11 Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
13 She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up while it is still night;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her female servants. (SLAVES!)
16 She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
19 In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
20 She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.
21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
22 She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
26 She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27 She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
31 Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

She’s a slave herself and all-the-while, where is this so-called husband? What the fuck is he doing? He’s sitting on his ass[23]. Mind you, there are different versions of this but spews the same nonsense.

Status 31’s Website: “Who we are?”

  The mission of the 31 Status movement is to show women around the world what a Proverbs 31 woman looks like in todays generation. We want to set a new standard of beauty in a world that tells us sex and seduction is the only way to find love. We believe true love comes from God, and we want to help you know Him and know yourself in a greater way. We want to empower and encourage you to better yourself mentally, physically, and spiritually. Finally, our goal above all else is for you to embrace “Who and Whose you are” as a female and as a 31.

As our organization grows, we plan to provide avenues for global outreach and recovery centers. Join us through prayer and spreading the word as we impact women worldwide.

-scratches head-

You don’t need prayer and you for damn sure don’t need god. Status 31 isn’t the only culprit, here, but it’s the most recent one that pissed me off. Let’s play, ‘Find the Contradiction’!:

1 Corinthians 7:3-9

The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. Now as a concession, not a command, I say this. I wish that all were as I myself am. But each has his own gift from God, one of one kind and one of another.

Did you find it?

Ephesians 5:22-33

Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word.

Where is it?

1 Timothy 2:11-12

Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

You’re so special to god, yet you get treated like shit. You’re not even supposed to open your mouth! Slavery is throughout the entire bible but you disregard all of that. It doesn’t matter that your ancestors were brought here and manipulated, huh? Right – it has nothing to do with you and the present. Don’t be fooled, it has a lot to do with the present – seeing as the bible isn’t a book that was kept in the past. It’s in my present, holding us back – well, not me, you.

Christianity is completely okay with slavery. This is one customs of the Old Testament that many “Christians” like to pretend don’t exist. Christ himself supports a slavery system in multiple teachings. “But, it’s from the Old Testament, so it doesn’t matter”. You’re still following the same god, right? A god that had to revise the old testament into a new testament, right? Okay, then.

Notice how proverbs 31 is moot and pointless? Name one person who follows this bullshit down to the letter today. Adultery  lusting, hell, even the roles have changed. The woman is at home, making sandwiches, doing laundry and the man is building the homes, making the greenbacks. Where’s your god, now? It seems like it’s okay to disregard that as well as the book of Leviticus (yep, you fucking hypocrites – I went there) seeing as so much has changed since then.

You can be virtuous without god, as well as good.

Why is race so important when it comes to religion and being an atheist? Well, let me show you why I think it is:

Bid slaves to be submissive to their masters and to give satisfaction in every respect …(Titus 2:9)

Slaves, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in singleness of heart, fearing the Lord. (Colossians 3:22)

Slaves, be obedient to those who are your earthly masters, with fear and trembling, in singleness of heart, as to Christ …(Ephesians 6:5)

Let all who are under the yoke of slavery regard their masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be defamed. (1 Timothy 6)

Blacks were forced into this religion by slavery. Their mental and physical abuse was endorsed by this wicked philosophy of evil men. Most people don’t know these verses are there, because they don’t read the bible. They spend their entire lives “studying” the same book one passage at a time, and conveniently skip over these parts (mainly guided by preachers at churches)

I urge all people, especially black people, to actually read the bible and study what they believe in. You’ll see what you’re actually worshiping…a philosophy of evil men, based on an immoral mythical character that endorsed the slavery of your ancestors.

Undercover Atheist

Being a undercover atheist can sometimes be the most annoying thing ever, but it is a annoyance that I must deal with if I plan to have any piece of mind. Now when I say undercover atheist, I am not referring to a nonbeliever who pretends to be a christian just to see what goes on inside the church, I have more of a life than that (hopefully I didn’t offend anyone if that is something that you partake in). I am referring to the fact that I hide my true beliefs in order to keep drama down with friends and issues with my family at bay.

My family is very religious. I have always wanted to tell them of my disbelief in our supreme, righteous, all knowing daddy (AKA god) but I fear what the consequences of that might be. I NEED MY FAMILY! I need to be able to talk to them constantly. I need to be able to attend family dinners and not have everyone treat me as if I am a step child. So I hide how I truly feel about religion in order to protect myself from losing any love from my family. I go to church with them sometimes, listen to them pray, and I will even give them a dollar or two for the “building fund that never seems to add anything to building.” Thats about as far as I will go though.

Undercover Atheist

Now I know most of you are probably saying that, “I should not have to hide my true self from my family. They should love me know matter what I believe in.” Well that is true but you must also remember that this is religion that we are talking about. Religion has a way of making parents kill their children, preachers butt fucking little boys, countries going to war and killing millions, etc, etc!! My family might be understanding and love me anyway, but that is a risk that I am not willing to take. I would much rather sacrifice being a open atheist rather than be without my family. That might change one day in the future but at this current point in time, that is how I am.

When it comes to my friends, I tend to be a little more vocal about my beliefs but I hardly just tell people that I’m a atheist. Friends are easy to replace and I tend to surround myself with people who are not judgmental. I’m a geek and I love science so the people I hang with are usually the same way. I do have a few however, that are stupidly religious (Is stupidly a word? Like someone please tell me as I’m to lazy to google it). If you say one bad thing about the bible, they get all offended. Yesterday, I said “fuck you preacher, talking about come to church on time and your ass be late for every church event there is,”on twitter. My ex girlfriend (notice I said ex) got so offended, that she went on a big rant about how I was going to hell. My reply to her of course was that “I love the heat” LOL.

So that is my “Undercover Atheist” life in a nutshell. Now for all of you who are going to call me weak and a hypocrite, take this into consideration. Imagine you are a young man who just graduated from college. You are going to the Air Force in April but you have little money on hand and a ton of bills to pay. You are the victim of a crapy economy so finding steady work is hard to come by until you leave in April. The last thing you need is to be fighting with family and friends when you seriously need their help. Well if that alters your opinion of the situation, know that that is my current state. I really need all of my bridges intact.

If you are going through something similar, please share.
